| In today's digital world, the options for DJ's are immense. From CD Decks, to Turntables the last ten years have brought many technological advances. The main advance was the fact that digital music could be transferred to turntables. Where in the past the vinyl or cd contained the track being played, today it is possible to "spin records" by using a vinyl with time code, that controls the digital content on an additional piece of hardware. This IO Box serves as the connection between the turntables, and a laptop where the digital content is being played from. | | | |

I've been waiting for this item to get released for literally months. I believe the first time I wrote about it was in March and here we are in August and I still don't have this damn thing in my hands. I was this weeked again what an awesome tool it is, since the setup at this party was missing a proper dj setup. If i had had this device and my macbook pro, I could have hooked up to the stereo and be ready to spin within moments. If all goes well I'll be ordering one of these next week, the excitement is starting to build. Click here to watch a Demo Video

I'm sure I'm not the only one faced with this type of scenario so I thought I would document what I have planned. The situation I'm dealing with is the following. I have a Linux, a Windows and Hacktintosh box. Needless to say on each of them some type of data gets stored. The linux server is easy to handle, since it integrated seemlessly with samba, so I can access the machine completely, no matter which machine I'm on. For security purposes I don't allow any of the clients to write to the Linux machine. My brother for example might easily create directories or other things by accident, which would compromise the integrity of my music collection.

As I'm sure everyone know that doesn't make millions or was born rich - equipment is expensive. In light of that I decided to build myself a keyboard pull-out tray. Here are a few pictures from before, during and after. If you have some pictures you'd like to share let me know and I'll put them up here. I always think everyone's a handy man but unfortunately that's not the case so here are some minor instructions on what you have to do to build one of these things.
